Software developer

Contribute to the integration of new application services,  access new software applications not available on the market and will be allowed to sell this service to their target user communities.

The involvement of commercial software developers is crucial for the complete deployment of the Science Mesh at European and global level

A first set of vendors  started to be engaged with the project already from October 2020. The level of engagement planned will be very high from the outset and will persist until after the end of the project as the vendors contribute to extending this solution, thereby increasing our community user base. The non-commercial software developers will be invited to contribute to the finalisation of the Science Mesh in the medium term and will be engaged in the project activities until Year 3.

Generally, we have focused on the role of the mesh in the academic community. However, the mesh can also be exploited by industry in two ways. More directly, industry partners can develop apps for the mesh.

In the previous section on researchers, we already outlined various functionalities that  initial implementation of the mesh enables. Beyond this, however, there are endless options of what can be achieved by enabling interoperability. The mesh opens new ways of collaborating across different organisations.

Software developers are facing many challenges that our main asset, the Science Mesh, can overcome:
Co-development and co-design services for large scale data in virtually all sectors.
Reduce Investments and efforts by benefiting from economies of scale.
Develop new applications and services.
Improvement of TRLs.
Difficulty in developing software across different software systems
Software developers will be offered new software applications not available on the market and will be allowed to sell this service to their target user communities.
The added value of the Science Mesh for the non-commercial software developers relies on the opportunity of being part of the Science Mesh by contributing to the integration of new application services.

In the CS3MESH4EOSC team, we have two industry partners who would already benefit from the mesh.
First is Cubbit, a start-up creating a "datacentre-less" cloud as an alternative to traditional commercial cloud storage solutions. Second is Ailleron, specialized in Agile software development and delivers innovative, effective, agile development teams in global market
