The ScienceMesh is a federation of European cloud storage solutions to enable data interoperability and friction-free collaboration between European researchers, without requiring these researches to relocate their data. This is possible by connecting nodes, that is, cloud platforms from different providers, into a pan-European mesh of data and higher level services.
The main benefit? European researchers from a specific node can keep their data in their home service, without having the need to move it from another node in order to either share data with other researchers or access different data services available in the ScienceMesh. By using the web interface on his home data service, with a simple mouse click, researchers can share datasets with any user or group on any of the other connected services in the ScienceMesh.
The mesh of geographically and diverse nodes from all around Europe allow the creation of a consistent interoperable where all the connected nodes in the ScienceMesh can interact with the others without leaving their home’s institution service interface. A step further into significantly easing policy, eligibility, data custodianship and consent issues.
